Our Legacy

Founded in 1975 by Marley and Linda Hodgson, Ghurka was built around a simple idea: create pieces of lasting quality through exceptional materials, timeless design, and uncompromising craftsmanship.

Inspired by the rugged elegance of British military gear carried by Gurkha officers in India, the brand introduced its first signature silhouette, the Express No. 2, at launch. More than fifty years later, it remains one of Ghurka’s most enduring designs.

From the beginning, the goal was never to create trend-driven luxury. Each piece was intended to age naturally, develop character over time, and remain relevant for decades.

Built to Last

Early Ghurka bags were developed with vegetable-tanned leather inspired by historic military equipment that had endured decades of harsh climates and travel. Marley Hodgson later sourced the original tanning formula used for those materials, helping establish the foundation for Ghurka’s approach to leather craftsmanship.

Today, our leather goods continue to be handcrafted using premium materials and time-honored construction techniques intended to improve with age rather than wear out through use.

Enduring Design

Ghurka designs are guided by restraint, longevity, and understated functionality. Clean lines, practical details, and timeless materials allow each piece to integrate naturally into everyday life without feeling tied to a specific era or trend.

The intention has always been to create pieces people become attached to over time.
